St Wilfrid’s CE Primary School is deeply committed to sustainability and environmental responsibility, embedding eco-friendly practices into daily school life. The school has a dedicated Sustainability Lead and a team of young Sustainability Councillors who actively promote green initiatives.

Key Sustainability Initiatives

Waste Reduction and Recycling:

Daily recycling of paper, plastic, and other materials (Recycling Ambassadors).

Reusing materials for Design Technology (DT) and Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) activities.

Litter picking in school and out in to the community through our Womble Club.

Food Waste and Sustainable Eating:

A food waste reduction programme to encourage responsible eating habits.

Composting food waste to enrich the school garden.

Engagement in discussions about sustainable food choices and healthy eating.

Eco-Friendly School Grounds and Biodiversity:

A school garden where students grow fruits, vegetables, and flowers through our Wellyboot and Eco Clubs.

Wildlife-friendly areas, including bug hotels and bird feeders, to support local biodiversity.

Tree-planting initiatives to enhance green spaces.

Sustainable Energy and Carbon Reduction:

Participation in the Let’s Go Zero and Net Carbon initiatives to work towards a zero-carbon future.

Encouraging energy-saving habits such as switching off lights and devices when not in use ('Leccy Leaders).

Exploring renewable energy use in school buildings.

Community and Church Collaboration:

Close partnership with the church to support community sustainability efforts.

Engagement with the Diocese of Southwell and Nottingham on eco-friendly initiatives.

Active and Sustainable Travel:

Encouraging walking, cycling, and scooting to school to reduce carbon emissions.

Participation in sustainable travel initiatives such as Walk to School Week.

Our recent partnership with St Wilfrid's Church involved crafting a cross using recycled materials.
