English this term looks at Egyptian mythology and the story of Atum Ra. Year 3 will be producing narrative poems based of the Egyptian story of creation. We are in Egypt for our dilemma narrative and the biblical story of Exodus, involving Moses and the pharaoh Ramses II. We will also be creating information about the discovery of Tutankhamun's tomb.
We start with reviewing our knowledge of fractions, measuring with money and telling the time. Over the coming weeks, Year 3 will be putting into practice their arithmetic skills using formal written methods.
We are learning about the human body - how muscles move and identifying the different bones that make up our skeletons. We are also delving into healthy living and how we can take care of our bodies.
In the summer term, we will be using video and editing software to create trailers for our favourite books. Then we move onto programming in Scratch. Year 3 will create animations and stories using coding.
Year 3 are learning to identify where and when ancient civilisations first appeared; Ask historically valid questions about sources; identify Ancient Egypt’s location and its key geographical features; explain why the River Nile was important to ancient Egyptians; explain the significance of the Rosetta Stone; explain the importance of gods and goddesses to people in ancient Egypt; analyse mummification’s connection to ancient Egyptian beliefs about the afterlife, and decide what was important to people in ancient Egypt.
We will be learning about the history and features of Latin America music, performing a salsa style song and playing from staff notation; performing a mini carnival using a range of performance techniques including song, dance, tuned and untuned musical instruments. And of course, later in the term lending our choir voices to the Year 6 Summer production!
For Religious Education, it’s all about the ‘good news’ as we are looking at the Gospel. We’ll be exploring why the teachings and stories surrounding Jesus inform how Christians live their life today. We’ll be discovering what the Bible meant when it said Jesus’ disciples would become ‘fishers of men’ and we’ll be looking into the morals and lessons learned from parables.
Mr Devivo is starting the term with rounders skills and team building while Mr Clapham is beginning with adventurous outdoor activities such as orienteering. Both focus on communication, balance, movement and control. Later we move onto athletics in time for our annual Sports Day and also we begin our swimming lessons at Calverton Leisure Centre.
This term Year 3 are cooking! As we are looking at how we can be healthy, we are designing our own nutritious recipe for pasta salads. Pupils will decide which types of ingredients they will include, including vegetables, proteins, dairy products, and carbohydrates.
This term we are focusing on ‘Keeping Myself Safe’. and 'Growing and Changing' Children will be exploring how they can better look after themselves and others. We’ll be looking at healthy dinners, supporting our friends, keeping active with exercise, and looking after our mental health and well-being.
